Creating 100 Faces of Conway was a way for artist/composer Faye Hedera to connect with her new community. Having moved to new cities many times, she was familiar with the long gap between arriving and feeling immersed in the city. Originally, the project was to force her to take a step outside of her comfort zone to get to know Conway, but as it developed and she got to know her subjects, it turned into a surprising act of love toward perfect strangers.

The subjects were chosen through nominations, with the exception of a few people that she personally invited based on interactions she had with them. Ultimately, the selection process was left up to other people. Most people were nominated multiple times, so that informed Hedera that their engagement was far-reaching, even if they didn’t realize it.

100% of the proceeds from the sale of the portraits will be donated to Haven Conway, a qualified residential treatment program for adolescent females in foster care between the ages of 12 and 18 who have experienced trauma.
